World Missions and Missionaries

Hillside Church is currently involved in many mission fields. We support Canadian Baptist Ministries missionaries around the world as well as individual missionaries called from within our congregation. These include local missionary organizations here in Vancouver, youth missions projects to Central America, individuals who wish to work in foreign countries, and missions projects  focused on HIV/AIDS orphans in sub-Saharan Africa.

Missions Partners:

From the beginning of the missionary movement in Canada, First Baptist Church, together with the many mission societies in the church, have been a part of what is now known as Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM).  We have been proud to have sent missionaries from our midst to many places throughout the world.  We have sent numerous short term teams as well.  We continue to be actively involved in supporting Canadian Baptist Ministries in all that we can.  We are also grateful for the support and resources that CBM provides us.  Together we are impacting the world for Christ.

Desmond Tutu Centre for Leadership; Capacity building projects – arising from verifiable needs at community level, designed and evaluated using participatory methods, and managed by C4L resource people. Such projects now account for over half of C4L’s public benefit activities.

For several years, DTC4L has been trying to reduce the average age of people using the campus facility. This is because half of Africa's population is 16 years old or younger. So DTC4L wants to reach tomorrow's leaders as well as today's... So in 2005, in the orchard on the same campus, a youth facility was built. This has an amphitheatre for get-togethers, a hands-on studio where skills can be transfered, a separate camp kitchen, a climbing wall, and four tent "villages". The camp has 2 sides to it, so that both young men and young women can stay on campus concurrently.

HOPE International Development Agency is a Canadian, non-profit, international development agency based in New Westminster, British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada.

Working in Africa, Asia, and the Americas in such countries as Ethiopia, Cambodia, India, Afghanistan, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic, HOPE International undertakes and supports people-oriented projects. These projects empower people and communities in need. Many projects focus on the provision of clean and safe water, sustainable living, primary health and sanitation, and the environment. The projects of HOPE are accomplished with the help of volunteers and the skills of the local people overseas, combined with the charity of people here who care.

It is HOPE International’s aim to offer hope to the poverty-stricken and hungry: those whose present circumstances afford them none.

We provide timely access to free food, clothing, and other necessities of life for enrolled mothers and their children.

We educate and encourage mothers to access appropriate resources in their communities. We provide an atmosphere that encourages independence, self worth and growth.

Union Gospel Mission exists to offer Hope to the Hungry, Hurting and Homeless. In 1940, the Mission began as a small soup kitchen. Since then we have grown dramatically to meet the needs surrounding us. Many people who have walked in the corridors of loneliness, hopelessness and despair have found UGM to be a place of new beginnings.

We continue to reach out to our communities with the love of God, showing Christian compassion, serving with integrity, and offering effective programs. Our desire is to be there for those in need with an outstretched hand, an open ear and a caring heart offering long-term solutions to their problems.

"Extend a hand up, not a hand out." Since 1993, Harvest has been reaching out to individuals and families in an attempt to help them cope with difficult life circumstances; family break-ups, illness, job loss, addiction and mental health issues can create feelings of desperation in anyone's life.

We help clients to overcome challenges and move towards being self-sufficient, once again. The Harvest Project nurtures the potential of every client while helping them to achieve a positive destiny. Harvest was founded upon the core elements missing from most assistance agencies: respect, dignity and accountability.

Clients will find the support network they need for success at Harvest Project. Through client care programs, counseling, resource services, clothing and groceries Harvest can provide the safety net between temporary setbacks and crises.

Christ For the City International builds ministries to meet the needs of people in the world’s cities. We help people transform lives for Christ. Street kids, prostitutes, orphans, the homeless, business people, the unemployed, the destitute are among those who meet Christ’s love through our missionaries and short-term mission teams.
